MISSION

Our mission is to make weird art possible, build magic out of nothing, and operate at the height of our collective communal imagination.

VISION

Our vision is “ew, wait, weird, what is that?” What if the Summer Cabaret was a funky petri dish, discarded in the sink once classes are over, absolutely ripe with the spores of future art? We want the experimental, the new, the things that absolutely must happen in a lil’ basement and nowhere else. We want to use the Summer Cabaret as a place of cultivation for the projects that otherwise couldn’t (or shouldn’t!) see the light of day. We want to give artists autonomy to make their work.

VALUES

CREATIVITY

What is bursting to come into the world? This doesn’t mean the piece has never been done before, but something about it must be new and itching to be made. We want creators of all disciplines to have a place to make something, to try and fail, and hopefully learn something new.

HUMANITY

We want processes that ensure humans are at the center of artistry. This means a belief in people over product, exploration over excellence, and work that values the audience as well as the creator.

COMMUNITY

We believe in chosen family. We want to build a space of gathering, of processing, able to hold joy and grief. As the world gets worse, we believe that community is the way to weather the storm. This means creating inclusive spaces. This means making room where it feels scarce, inviting in the outsiders, and being a place of refuge for those who need it.
