A girl breaks up with a guy, triggering the apocalypse. A pair of queer friends living in a strange world and speaking in strange ways, watch their sun explode. it’s not you, it’s the end of the world”, is a night of two original one act plays written by Andrew Rincón and Max Sheldon.
Two one act plays. One night. Multiple laughs, multiple heartbreaks, Multiple apocalypses.

Andrew Rincón, a Colombian-American playwright, smiles at the camera with a relaxed look. His hair is cut short, and he sports a well-kept, short beard. He is wearing a patterned brown button-up shirt.

Andrew Rincón, he/she/they/any (writer) is a Queer Colombian-American playwright writing plays that reimagines myths, Queers the narrative and fabulates stories for the stage. Their plays have been developed with The Latinx Playwrights Circle, The Austin Latino New Play Festival, The Amoralists Theatre Company, Pork Filled Productions (Seattle), Out Front Productions (Atlanta). Andrew was a member of INKtank Lab for Playwrights of Color (2017) , 2017 Fornés Playwriting Workshop (Chicago). Andrew is the winner of the 2018 Chesley/Bumbalo Grant for writers of Gay and Lesbian Theatre, and New Light Theatre Project’s New Light New Voices Award (2019).  Dramatist Guild Foundation Fellow (19-20), MacDowell Fellow (Winter 2020). Skidmore College’s Visiting Playwright in Residence (21-22). Finalist in LGBTQ Drama for the 36th Lambda Literary Awards 2024.

Select Plays include The LonelyEl MitoThe Leopard Women. Their play I Wanna Fuck like Romeo and Juliet had it’s world premiere in NYC at 59e59 Theatres (Fall 2022) and is published by Concord Theatricals. They are currently developing a trio of plays reimagining biblical myths as Queer characters; The Queer Genesis/Unholy Trinity. They are currently pursuing an MFA in playwriting at Yale School of Drama.

Max Sheldon (writer) is a Los Angeles born and raised artist who will begin his third year as an actor at David Geffen School of Drama in the fall where he’s been seen in What of the Night?, Metamorphoses, Coriolanus, and You Can Tell a Tree By Its Fruit. In the spring, Max directed The Day the Butcher Shop Closed as a part of the 24-25 Yale Cabaret Season. This is Max’s debut as a playwright. He hopes you’re having a lovely end of the world and that these stories make you feel a little less alone. Max would like to thank the Petri Dish Summer Cab team and the cast and crew of it’s not you, it’s the end of the world, his friends, incredible teachers, Ted Walch, and his parents for their love and unwavering belief in him.

Matthew Chong, he/she/they (line producer) is a first generation Korean-American playwright. His work explores how oppressive systems can make its victims complicit in their own oppression. His plays include The Aughts (Yale Cabaret), Lessons (The Kennedy Center’s Paul Stephen Lim Playwriting Award) and Jung (Samuel French OOB Short Play Festival). He assisted Scott Rudin during the Broadway productions of Three Tall Women and To Kill A Mockingbird; he has also worked in television production at MTV and Netflix. He is a Writer in Residence at The New Harmony Project 2025.

Rethabile Headbush, she/her (rehearsal stage manager) was born in Gqeberha and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. With a passion and background in devised and interdisciplinary theater practice, she graduated from a full-time performance and theatre-making course at the Market Theatre Laboratory (Johannesburg) and has performed in the Naledi-Award-winning (South Africa) Market Theatre productions, Eclipsed: Phifalo ya Ngwedi (2020) and No Easter Sunday for Queers (2019). At the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale (DGSD), she continues her studies towards her MFA in stage management with credits ASMing at Yale’s Repertory Theatre and stage managing in various student new plays and thesis and studio productions. Her love for theatre continues to be fueled by a desire to uplift and facilitate the creative process. She wrote and performed The Interview for this year’s Summer Cabaret.

Richard Lee, he/him (production designer) Born and raised in Taiwan, Richard Lee is a rising second year student at David Geffen School of Drama at Yale. While pursuing his MFA in scenic design, he is also developing his profession in lighting design. Recent set design credits include You are Wonderful (FTLC Theater, Taipei), Instant Noodle and Interrogation (National Taiwan University R118, Taipei), and Softly, Softly (NTUA Dormitory for Artists in Residence, Taipei). Recent lighting design credits include A Language of their Own (Player Theater, Taipei); assistant/associate design credits include Chiaroscuro (The Flea), Eden (Yale Repertory Theater), Veremonda (Yale Baroque Opera), Grandmother/Bathtub and Dragaret (Yale Cabaret). Aura Michelle, she/her (stage manager) hails from Calgary, Alberta, and is a recent graduate of Yale’s M.F.A. stage management program at DGSD. Recent credits include Notes on Killing Seven Oversight, Management and Economic Stability Board Members, SPUNK, The Salvagers (Yale Rep), I Am Alan Turing, Coriolanus, Apologiae 4 & 5, What of the Night, Pearl’s Beauty Salon, Fucking A, The Winter’s Tale, Macbeth, rent free (Yale, Geffen School); Romeo et Juliette and Kiss Me, Kate (Central City Opera); Shakespeare’s Women, Love and Information, and Dead Man’s Cell Phone (University of Victoria, Phoenix Theatre, her alma mater). Her artistic passion focuses on avant-garde, multi-lingual, and politically evocative work. Aura seeks to create art and artistic spaces grounded in decolonizing practices, intercultural collaboration, and radical humanity.

Grayson Richmond, he/they (director) graduated with an MFA in Acting from Yale in 2025. Other directing credits include The Aughts (Yale Summer Cabaret). Acting credits include The Inspector(Yale Repertory Theatre), Apologiae 4 & 5 (Yale Cabaret), The Care and Keeping of You Pages 76-77 (David Geffen School of Drama At Yale), The Horrors (Yale Summer Cabaret). Ke Xu, she/her (projections & properties designer) is a multidisciplinary theater designer. She graduated from Central Saint Martins (UAL) with first-class honors in product design and is currently a projection design M.F.A. candidate at David Geffen School of Drama, where her credits include Silence/The Village, Ain’t No Mo’. She was working professionally in China before coming to Yale and is passionate about exploring new theatrical language that integrates digital media with physical space.

Claire Young, she/her (production manager) is stoked to be a part of Summer Cab 51. She is an Aquarius, a mother to a 5-year-old cat named Margo, and a big fan of funky earrings. This ex-Floridian was excited to spend the summer in New Haven until she realized it was just as hot here some days. When she’s not building LEGO flowers or out thrift shopping, you’ll find her working to get her MFA in Stage Management here at DGSD. Claire is trying something new this summer in being the PM and is grateful to be surrounded by this supportive group of fungi who put up with her. She’d also like to thank her favorite human, Kai.
