History

Yale Cabaret has been an artistic home for Yale School of Drama students since 1968. It is housed in the basement of 217 Park Street, in what used to be the Phi Gamma Alpha building. The Cab has a rich legacy of producing cutting-edge theater created by passionate artists, often working outside of their areas of study at the Drama School. Artists who have worked at the Cab include Meryl Streep, Angela Bassett, Wendy Wasserstein, Sigourney Weaver, Christopher Durang, John Turturro, Lynn Nottage, Anna D. Shapiro, Henry Winkler, David Alan Grier, Tony Shalhoub, Paul Giamatti, Liev Schreiber, Melissa James Gibson, Tarrell Alvin McCraney, and Lupita Nyong'o, among many, many more. Many Cabaret productions have gone onto to be developed and/or produced at theaters around the world. Channeling a rich history of theatrical traditions, from prehistoric cave rituals to Moulin Rouge, the Cab continues to combine dining, drinks, and performance to create a community destination.
